Here’s a list of some of the largest villages in Meghalaya by population (based mainly on 2011 Census data, as updated statewide village population data beyond 2011 is limited):


List of 10 Largest Villages in Meghalaya (by Population)


  1. Nongrah – ~7,000 people — One of the most populous villages in Meghalaya, located in the Mylliem block of East Khasi Hills. 

  2. Laitkor Lumheh – ~4,100 people — A large village in East Khasi Hills district with a high literacy rate.

  3. Nongjrong – ~1,440 people — A scenic hill village gaining attention for its nature and sunrise views. 

  4. Mawlein Mawkhan – ~1,543 people — Listed as the largest village in the Umsning block of Ri Bhoi district.

  5. Narwan – ~3,372 people — The largest village in the Saipung block of East Jaintia Hills district. 

  6. Rymbai – ~4,788 people — Largest village in the Khliehriat subdivision of Jaintia Hills district. (village database)

  7. Mawlyngbna – ~1,546 people — Largest in the Mawsynram subdivision of East Khasi Hills.

  8. Laitryngew – ~3,313 people — Largest in the Shella Bholaganj subdivision of East Khasi Hills. 

  9. Nongthymmai – Very populous village area in Ri Bhoi (listed among large village clusters – Census listings include it).

  10. Umroi/Abri Village Area – Cluster of larger villages in Ri Bhoi (with higher populations compared to many small villages). 

⚠️ Note: Meghalaya has thousands of villages (6,459+ as of 2011). Many are small hamlets, and complete ranked population data for all villages isn’t centrally published in a simple ranked list.
